Bob HarderSaw Laddie's pix of your SSR tow rig and trailer...looks great!

What brand and length of trailer do you have?

I had understood that the SSR could only pull 3800 lbs...did you have to travel far with yours? How did it handle?

Thanks in advance!!

davidnbob,

by looking at the picture looks like a Texas-Roll back or solan quick load...

mdavidjensenActually this is what the Chevrolet widsite has to say on trailering, and why I stopped trying to buy one. Was a different hitch put ont the SSR? Or were the spec's ignored?
And how well did it tow?

Rick BuehlerBob,

It's an 18'Texas Rollback trailer. I traveled from St.Louis to Austin, TX and had no problem with handling. Labored a little on steep grades. I estimated 10 1/2 miles to the gallon in the wind and about 13 1/2 with the wind. I added my own 2" receiver hitch and accessed it from behind the license plate. Due to the modifications I made with the hitch, I think this allowed for more towing capacity, versus using the hitch that came on the SSR. Drove with top up, top down and with and without air conditioner and it drove the same with no heating problems. I am satisfied with the way it all worked and I really like how the trailer works. I only plan on towing the Prowler with the SSR 3 maybe 4 times a year at the most.

ALLEY CATRick - In my opinion,,,that was a sweet looking package. Trailer looked brand new? How is the performance of the SSR in general, compared to the Prowler?
Bob HarderThanks, Rick!

I have been favoring the Texas Roll Rack but have not seen one 'in person' and have not been able to locate a TRB trailer dealer in my area...where did you get yours?
Do you know the weight of the trailer? (most seem to be between 1200 and 1800 pounds)...I was hoping for an aluminum trailer to save weight but they all seem to be the 'with ramps' type....ball park price?

Thanks again! I also am thinking of trailering 3-4 times a year (probably over the Rockies too...)....may go 'in partners' with a friend with a Viper since we may trailer to different events...

Marty UsherHey Rick - I agree that it sure looked sharp. It just shows that the Prowler is so special that it makes a SSR nothing but a tow vehicle!

Actually I really like the SSR. It would make a good daily driver for me when I ever finish paying off the kat. The complaints abouit HP don't bother me. Just like the Prowler, you can always add performance mods. I think Bob Goetz should start making after market parts for the SSR also - at least the volume would be higher and that would help assure he'll continue to be around to make parts for our cars

Marty

Rick BuehlerAlley Cat and Bob - As far as performance, the SSR performs as good as the Prowler, if not better. It's an aluminum trailer and weighs 1350 lbs. It is new, first time used was to the Texas Stampede. I bought it from a dealer in Missouri. If you call TRB at 1-800-771-6215 you can get the name and number of your closest dealer. It cost $4795.

Bob - If you're going over the Rockies you might not want to tow with the SSR. It might be too laboring. You'd be better off with a full tilt tow vehicle. The trailer works great and no ramps.

Thanks for your interest.
